Hi! My name is Nina Goyal.

I created SoFlo Music Academy to spread cheer in the community through music. After COVID-19, there was a severe disconnect in society, resulting in many of us feeling sadness and negative emotions. I did not realize this back then, but music helped me get through this period of social isolation. The one-hour virtual singing lessons with my voice coach were the best part of my week. It was a time each week when, even though I was still a virtual learner, separated from everyone else, I could have fun and do something I love. It helped me understand that it is possible to enjoy, experience, and learn music without being in person. 

SoFlo Music Academy is the outcome of this realization. I created a website to help young students learn music, everything from singing to the basics of music theory. I wanted to give children a music experience so they could feel the same joy I felt. I started learning to sing when I was three years old with a voice coach. I was in the elementary and middle school chorus and was honored to be selected for the Florida All-State Choir in 7th and 8th grade. In 9th grade, I also participated in the student experience at Florida All-State. As a freshman, I decided to take AP Music Theory as it would help me understand the music I sing even better. This year, in 10th grade, I was selected for the Sight-Reading Choir at Florida All-State. This choir receives the first hundred seats at the event.

Given my love for music, I hope SoFlo Music Academy can give back by helping young students learn the basics of music. I know that not all students have the privilege of having a voice coach at a young age, and I created this platform so that any student can access it from any device. It will hopefully provide the start for a love of music. I designed tutorials and exercises so elementary school music teachers can incorporate them into classroom activities. Additionally, students can work with their teachers and parents to learn some of the essential components of music theory and voice. This free platform allows kids, parents, and elementary school teachers to access and learn/teach music. I aim to ensure that these children can experience the same love for music I feel daily.
